Safra Square is a city square along Jaffa Road in central Jerusalem that houses the Jerusalem Municipality Complex. Some of the historic buildings of the Russian Complex were restored and incorporated into the municipal complex. Canadian architect Jack Diamond was selected to design the Jerusalem Municipality Complex, made up of three new buildings together with ten existing buildings with a plaza towards the center. This massive project started in 1988 and was completed in 1993. Several art projects and artworks are part of the Safra Square Complex including several statues of lions (the symbol of Jerusalem), the Daniel Garden, a sculpture by Roy Lichtenstein, and a sculpture by Avraham Ofek.
